Genius-Radiofrequency Microneedling

What is GENIUS™ Radiofrequency Micro-needling and how does it work?

The GENIUS™ technology combines fractional RF energy with gentle micro-needling to maximize skin tightening results. The tip has 49 sterile insulated needles that deliver radiofrequency energy at the needle tips. These needles safely and comfortably penetrate the skin to a specific depth, allowing the RF energy to more effectively bypass the skin surface and target underlying dermis. As we age, collagen and elastin production declines. GENIUS™ is one of the only treatments that generates not only collagen, but elastin as well, resulting in thicker, tighter and smoother skin. The system continuously monitors the quality of the skin during the treatment, allowing your provider to accurately customize each treatment. GENIUS™ is a safe, non-invasive treatment that works on all skin types.

GENIUS™ is performed in the office and does not require general anesthesia, making it a great alternative for those who are not able undergo or are uninterested in cosmetic surgery.

What conditions does GENIUS™ treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scars and acne scarring
  • Skin laxity

What areas can the GENIUS™ treat?

Genius can treat the skin on face, neck, décolletage, arms, knees, or surgery scars on other body areas.

How soon will I see results?

You can expect to see some changes within a day or two after their first session of GENIUS™. However, your body will continue to build collagen for several weeks after that, so you will typically see improvement over the next four to six months. This is because the body takes time to create new collagen in the skin and to contract and remodel the connective tissue fibers.

How long will my results last?

Unlike many other procedures, this has long-lasting results as it is your own body at work. With proper maintenance and a good skin care regimen, the effects could last for years. Benefits of the GENIUS™ technology can be enhanced by a comprehensive cosmetic skin care program.

Will I need more than one series of treatments?

Benefits of the GENIUS™ technology can be enhanced by a comprehensive skin care program and maintenance treatments after the initial series of three treatments.

Does it hurt?

There may be some discomfort with the procedure. We use a topical numbing cream that dramatically reduces the sensation of the skin during the treatment. Most patients are fine with just this application. For some patients with anxiety, we offer PRO-NOX™ which is a pneumatically driven gas system designed to deliver a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide mixture to patients for the relief of pain and anxiety. The PRO-NOX™ is patient-controlled inhaled analgesia for in-office use and takes effect in seconds, offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety. If you decide to use the Pro-Nox for the procedure, you will not have to have a driver to accompany you home. The effects of the Pro-Nox will be gone in five minutes of the last inhalation of the analgesia.

How long does the treatment take?

Each session takes about two hours. This involves application of the topical numbing cream (one hour prior to procedure), preparing the skin surface, and delivering the treatment. The specific time required for the GENIUS™ energy delivery depends on the number of areas being treated, but typically is about 30-60 minutes.

How long before I can return to my normal activities? Can I go back to work afterward?

There is minimal downtime from GENIUS™ treatments. The treated area will be swollen and inflamed or irritated in appearance for about 24-36 hours. No specific post-treatment medication, measures, or restrictions are required. All patients are different and individual healing times and results may vary. However, many patients will go back to work the day after their treatment session, though this varies according to personal preference.

Are there contraindications?

Micro-needling
You cannot have the procedure if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator or have an allergy to gold.

How many treatments are there?

The total number of treatment sessions depends on your unique skin characteristics and the desired endpoint. Most patients will undergo three treatments, typically one month apart and maintenance treatments as desired/needed.

What does the procedure cost?

The procedure fee will vary depending on the area or areas you want treated. Please feel free to contact the Lloyd Dermatology Center for further information @ 330-758-9189.
